Detailed Description of the Collection

Press Office Files, 1990-1994,
(41 ft.).

Scope and Contents of the Press Office Files
Records include clippings, press releases regarding general topics, appointments, and the Governor's schedule, information on bills proposed and/or passed in the 72nd and 73rd Legislatures, and copies of Ann Richards' speeches, including her inaugural address.
Clippings, 1990-1994,
(11 ft.).
Scope and Contents of the Clippings
Records are copies of newspaper clippings gathered by the governor's press office, dating from September 1990 to August 1994. Individuals with significant coverage in the clippings include Governor and Mrs. Clements, Governor Richards, Clayton Williams, and George W. Bush. Some of the subjects covered include the 1990 general election, the 1994 primaries, insurance, education, school finance, ethics, corrections, oil and gas, state agencies and officials, the lottery, psychiatric hospitals, redistricting, and nursing homes. Attention was also focused on the royal visit by Queen Elizabeth II and tragedies such as the killings in Killeen, a pipeline explosion in Brenham, John Connally's death, and Kenneth McDuff. Clippings are organized by day or group of days and then by subject. Each group has a title page with an index of subjects covered, although every subject is not included in the indexes. Miscellaneous and editorial clippings contain a variety of subjects. Clippings for September 1994 through January 1995 most likely remain in the Governor's Office.
