Biographical Note

Jack Cox (1921-1990) was born in Stephens County, Texas, and graduated from North Texas State University. A veteran of the Second World War, he worked in the oil business. He served in the Texas State Legislature as a Democrat from 1946-1952. During the middle 1950s, Cox became active in conservative politics. He changed his party affiliation and ran as a Republican for governor, the U. S. Senate and the U. S. House of Representatives.

The papers include Cox's files on election districts, and his campaign literature and promotional material. Personal material and Cox's reference files, including conservative publications he had collected, comprise the rest of his papers.
