Canebrake Plantation was owned and operated by James Green Carson (1815-1863) until he moved across the Mississippi River to Airlie Plantation in East Carroll Parish, Louisiana, around 1846.
Scope and Contents
Record books for 1856, 1857, and 1858 contain information about the affairs of Canebrake Plantation in Adams County, Mississippi. Books include a daily record of events, a daily record of cotton picked, and lists of livestock, equipment, and births and deaths of slaves entered by the overseers. The books, printed by Thomas Affleck of New Orleans, also contain contemporary advertising.
