Scope and Contents

Papers of Mody Boatright (1896-1970), folklorist and professor of English at The University of Texas (1926-1969), include personal papers; items related to the Boatright and Reck families; and materials related to his professional career as teacher, chairman of the English Department, secretary-editor of the Texas Folklore Society, Fellow of the American Folklore Society, and member of numerous organizations. Other material relates to research on the oil industry and western history and folklore, as well as to his numerous publications. Included are correspondence, newspaper clippings and other printed items, scrapbooks, notes, student papers and other teaching materials, bibliographies, literary productions, oral history transcripts, and photographs.
