Correspondence, diaries, legal record books, special orders, receipts, broadsides, literary productions, muster rolls, photographs, and reports arranged chronologically under subject or individual.

Collection consists of soldiers' personal correspondence, diaries and reminisceneses; official Confederate Medical Department papers and miscellaneous papers relating to military medical matters; official documents, orders, and letters relating to Confederate affairs both civil and military; the William W. Hunter papers dealing primarily with the Confederate Navy but also containing miscellaneous military documents; Trans-Mississippi Department of the Confederacy Quartermasters Division papers; Cotton Bureau records; muster rolls; and fourteen Confederate service records.
