Collection documents the life of Acree (1878-1947), a Central Texas
businessman. Papers concern Acree's activities as a poultry farmer, rancher,
nursery owner, real-estate developer, and oilman; his political activities,
primarily campaigns for numerous Texas politicians; his support of a program
for improved roads; his terms as mayor of Moody, Texas (1912-1914, 1921-1926);
his support of educational developments, with particular reference to The
University of Texas and Baylor University; his participation in organizations
such as the Masonic Order, the Poetry Society of Texas, the Central Texas
Archeological Society, and the American Red Cross during World War I; and his
interest in historical research, especially dealing with the Republic of Texas
and the Civil War periods, and genealogical studies of the Grimes, Wren, Acree,
and related families. Collection includes the papers of Mrs. E. V. Acree,
mother of Fred Acree. Materials include correspondence, memorandum books,
account records, receipts, certificates, field notes, deeds, plats, abstracts,
oil and gas leases, maps, photographs, broadsides, genealogies, scrapbooks, and
newspaper clippings.
