Biographical Note

Born in 1813, Isaac Van Zandt practiced law in Marshall, Texas where he settled in 1838. He was a member of the Texas House of Representatives from 1840 to 1842. In 1845, he was a member of the convention that considered and approved the annexation of Texas to the United States. he died in 1847.


Scope and Contents

Papers contain primarily letters to the postmaster in Washington, D.C., but includes a photostat letter to Wm. W. Holman which reports the activities of the Texan Delegation and the attitude of Washington toward Texas. Also included is a treasury voucher.
