Biographical Note

H.A.D. Dunsworth has the distinction of having been associated with UTA for 51 years. He began as a student in 1918, graduated in 1922, and taught public school for three years. In 1925, he returned to UTA (then known as North Texas Agricultural College) to teach physics and chemistry and became the first alumnus of the college to be hired as a member of the faculty. The following year he joined the Math Department. From 1929 to 1932, in addition to teaching mathematics, he also served as track coach. In 1932, he became Athletic Director, serving in that capacity until 1941, when he became head of the Math Department. He remained in that position for 20 years except for a brief period when he was Acting Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. In addition to his teaching and administrative responsibilities, Dunsworth organized the Math Clinic and founded the Ex-Letterman's Club and the Maverick Club and was active in the Alumni Association. Also civic-minded, he was an organizer of the Arlington Chamber of Commerce and served ten years on the Arlington City Council. "Hoss" Dunsworth retired in 1973. Six years later the school created the H.A.D. Dunsworth Scholarship Fund to honor his years of service to UTA.
