Historical Note

Joel Rosen of Fort Worth, Texas studied at the Arts Students League of New York with the hopes of becoming a professional cartoonist. He returned to Fort Worth and entered into the family's real estate development business instead. His love of cartooning, however, was not diminished as he continued to create cartoons as a hobby. He also began collecting cartoons ranging from newspaper comic strips to political cartoons and, by the time of his death in 1973, he had amassed over a half century's worth of cartoons.

Scope and Contents

Collection contains cartoon strips, newspapers, and original cartoon drawings. The cartoons were collected by Joel Rosen over a sixty year period from several major American newspapers. Also included are several original cartoons by Rosen, Jack "Herc" Ficklen, John Knott, and Bill McClanahan of the Dallas Morning News, and others.

The collection consists of 57 boxes of materials divided into 2 series. Materials in Series I are arranged in numbered folders in boxes 1-27. Materials in Series II are arranged in boxes 28-57.
