Historical Note

The International Association of Bridge and Structural Iron Workers of America was founded in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1896. The International Association of Bridge and Structural Iron Workers, Local 125 represented iron workers in Port Arthur, Texas. William H. Caughlin served as Secretary-Treasurer for Local 125 from 1911 to approximately 1923. In 1918, local unions of the IABSIWA in Texas established a State District Council. At some point between the 1920s and 1930s, Local 125 represented members from both Port Arthur and Beaumont and operated out of Beaumont. Local 125 merged with Local 135, headquartered in Galveston, in 2004.

Records contain a dues book for Local Union No. 125 (1920-1923), a photograph taken at the 19th annual convention of the Association in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1916, and a certificate in memoriam of Allan S. Haywood (1953).
