Materials include correspondence, convention material, CIO and IFLWU pamphlets, autobiography, handbook, song books, Henry Wallace pamphlets, Workers Alliance material, constitutions, and agreements. Materials consist mostly of items from the International Fur and Leather Workers Union and Scott's 796-page autobiography, which is replete with political and social commentary.

Biographical Note

Hardy Scott was engaged in a variety of different roles and industries across the country throughout his life. Hardy worked as an organizer for the International Fur and Leather Workers Union, the Food, Tobacco, the Agricultural Workers Union, and for other unions, but also as a drycleaner, a bakery salesman, a coffee salesman, and a poultry farmer at different points during his life.

The International Fur and Leather Workers Union began in 1913 and was then affiliated with the AFL. The union's organizers were viewed as radicals and Communists, which led to the union's dissolution and absorption by the Amalgamated Meat Cutters Union in 1955.


Scope and Contents

Papers contain correspondence, convention materials, CIO and IFLWU pamphlets, autobiography, handbook, song books, Henry Wallace pamphlets, Workers Alliance materials, constitutions, and agreements. Materials are mainly from Scott's work with the International Fur and Leather Workers Union. Scott's 796-page autobiography is replete with political and social commentary.
