Historical Note

The Texas State CIO Council was first organized in 1937 as the Texas Federation of CIO Unions and later underwent a name change to become the Texas State Industrial Union Council. In 1953, the organization became known as the Texas State CIO Council which then merged in 1957 with the Texas State Federation of Labor to form the Texas AFL-CIO.

Contains correspondence, minutes, financial records, reports, newspaper clippings, lists, newsletters, manuals, directories, national and state convention materials, booklets, and pamphlets. Also included are materials on the AFL-CIO merger in 1955 and correspondence with affiliated local unions and John L. Lewis.
