Historical Note

The Midwestern Texas Building and Construction Trades Council was a central organizing body of local labor unions related to the building and construction trades. Delegates from affiliated labor unions attended and represented their respective trades and locals during council meetings. Previously known as the Lubbock Building and Construction Trades Council, the organization changed its name to the Midwestern Texas Building and Construction Trades Council in the early 1960's and included the Abilene, Lubbock, Midland-Odessa, and Wichita Falls areas within its jurisdiction.


Scope and Contents

Records contain correspondence (1952), minutes (1946-1953, 1963-1964), audit reports (1947-1950), financial statements (1946-1948, 1963-1964), and wage scales (1949, 1951-1952, 1964). The bulk of the materials are minutes that record and describe the proceedings of meetings held by the council. Topics of materials include reports from delegates, labor conditions and issues pertaining to specific locals and trades, labor practices of specific businesses, financial matters, officer elections, and other general matters.
