This collection contains newspapers, news releases, newsletters, correspondence, lists, speeches, photographs, place cards, programs, invitations, a photoengraver's plate, poster, and financial records that document the 75th anniversary celebration. Several newspapers included in the collection contain stories about the history of the University of Texas at Arlington, beginning with the founding of Arlington College in 1895.

Historical Note

The University of Texas at Arlington commemorated its 75th anniversary with a celebration that featured guest speakers and various programs and festivities over a two day period from March 12-13, 1970. Featured speakers included Lieutenant Governor Ben Barnes, Pomona College President Dr. David Alexander, Texas business and civic leader J.B. Thomas, and University of Texas at Arlington President Dr. Frank Harrison. The chairman of the 75th Anniversary planning committee and chairman of the English Department at the University of Texas at Arlington, Duncan Robinson, was also a speaker during the event and made a special presentation covering the university's past history. Other festivities included a casino night, dance, receptions, and banquets. Leading up to the event, several university and community publications featured news stories about the history of the University of Texas at Arlington, beginning with the founding of Arlington College in 1895.


Scope and Contents

This collection contains newspapers, news releases, newsletters, correspondence, lists, speeches, photographs, place cards, programs, invitations, a photoengraver's plate, poster, and financial records. The newspapers, news releases, and newsletters contain stories about the history of the University of Texas at Arlington, the 75th anniversary celebration, and the changing landscape of the campus over the years. Some of the stories contain reminiscences from past UTA faculty and students. The correspondence is to or from members of the 75th anniversary planning and documents the planning and organization of festivities, publicity, and arrangements concerning guest speakers and attendees. Financial records are receipts and invoices for services and materials pertaining to the celebration. The rest of the materials document the events of the celebration.
