Abstract: Robert Russell, known as Rusty, was born June 11, 1942 in Pasadena, Texas and attended The University of Texas at Arlington, then known as Arlington State College, from 1964 to 1968. During his time as a student, he was very active in student government and campus activities, including being elected Johnny Reb, the symbol of school spirit. This collection contains correspondence, minutes, UTA student organization constitutions, photographs, agendas, brochures, reports, clippings, program, newsletters, membership cards, and miscellaneous printed material. All of the materials pertain to UTA student government and student activities throughout Russell's days as a student at UTA.

Biographical Note

Robert Russell, known as Rusty, was born June 11, 1942 in Pasadena, Texas and attended The University of Texas at Arlington, then known as Arlington State College, from 1964 to 1968. During his time as a student, he was very active in campus activities and student government. He served on and chaired several student government committees and student organizations. He was also elected Johnny Reb, the symbol of school spirit, official school host, and escort for Miss UTA, by the student body. Russell received a B.A. from UTA in 1968 and went on to study law at the University of Texas at Austin. Following graduation from law school in 1970, he became a practicing attorney and, in 2002, a judge.


Scope and Contents

This collection contains correspondence, minutes, constitutions, photographs, agendas, brochures, reports, clippings, program, newsletters, membership cards, and miscellaneous printed material from Rusty Russell's time Arlington State College as an undergraduate from 1964-1968. All of the materials pertain to UTA student government and student activities. Records including minutes, agendas, and reports of the Arlington State College Student Government and the Board on Student Organizations are present. As the purpose of the Board of Student Organizations was to review student organizations, the constitutions and bylaws of many UTA student organizations and associations are included. A constitution and catalog of the Texas Intercollegiate Student Association is also present. Clippings, brochures, program, newsletters, and printed material document UTA, the expansion of the UTA campus, and student activities. Photographs are of students, Rusty Russell, and student activities such as pep rallies.
