Historical Note

Local 276 of the United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America, also known as the UAW, was organized for workers at the General Motors Corporation assembly plant in Arlington, Texas and was chartered on March 11, 1954. The headquarters of Local 276 was located in neighboring Grand Prairie, Texas.


Scope and Contents

The UAW Local 176 Collection contains printed material dating 1967-1974 and photographs dating approximately 1963-1974. Photographs are of the General Motors Corporation assembly plant in Arlington, the Ford Motor plant in Dallas, Local 276 officers and building, local strikes, International Union officers, and the Solidarity House in Detroit, Michigan. Printed material was mainly produced and distributed by the International headquarters and pertains to priorities and negotiations of the national agreement, material on union membership, energy, the 1937 Ford Motor Company strike, legislative issues, collective bargaining, a report of the Public Review Board, and the UAW Solidarity memorial issue on Walter Reuther (1970).
