Abstract: Duncan Robinson (1905-1983) was a Professor Emeritus of English at the University of Texas at Arlington and a noted authority on Southwest literature and Mark Twain. He began his career at UTA, then known as North Texas Agricultural College, in 1928 and retired in 1975 after 47 years of service. This collection contains correspondence, photographs, program, printed material, and books that document Robinson's activities as a professor and a writer.

Biographical Note

Duncan W. Robinson (1905-1983) was a longtime professor of English at the University of Texas at Arlington and a noted authority on Southwest literature and Mark Twain. Robinson first joined the faculty in 1928 when the university was known as the North Texas Agricultural College. During his 47 year career as a professor at Arlington, he also acted at times as registrar, director of public information, department chair, debate team coach, chairman of the UTA historical and archives committee, and student newspaper sponsor. Robinson retired in 1975 as Professor Emeritus of English. The book Duncan Robinson: Texas Teacher and Humanist, which was published in 1968 by the UTA English Department, contains writings by and about him.


Scope and Contents

This collection contains correspondence, photographs, program, printed material, and books. Correspondence is mainly social in nature and correspondents include E. C. Barker, Roy Bedichek, and J. Frank Dobie. The books are Beneath The Student Light, a collection of poems by Duncan Robinson, and Duncan Robinson: Texas Teacher and Humanist, a collection of writings by and about Robinson. The print is a proof by Delmar Pachl made for Robinson's book, Three-Legged Willie, and the program is from the Arlington State College twenty-five year banquet celebration. Photographs depict the Carlisle Military Academy baseball team, dated approximately 1910, and the first senior class of English majors at Arlington State College, 1961.
