Historical Note

The International Hod Carriers', Building, and Common Laborers' Union of America, Local 357 was a labor union of general laborers in Lubbock, Texas. In January 1964, Local 357 and Local 688, Amarillo, Texas, merged into Local 897, Borger, Texas. The union began in 1903 as the International Hod Carriers and Building Laborers’ Union (IHC and BLC). It became the International Hod Carriers', Building, and Common Laborers' Union of America in 1920, and in 1965, the name was changed to the Laborers' International Union of North America (LIUNA).


Scope and Contents

Records consist of correspondence, minutes, financial records, a photograph, membership books with stamps, jurisdiction booklet, and a stamp. Correspondence pertains to specific members and companies; benefits; and general news and updates from the international office. Minutes record and describe the proceedings of meetings held by Local 357 from 1948-1959. Financial records include check stubs, bank statements, receipt books, per capita tax reports, and other financial reports. The photograph is of a parade float for Local 357.
