Historical Note

Local 218 of the United Auto Workers (UAW) was organized for workers at the Bell Helicopter Company in Fort Worth, Texas. Members of Local 218 were involved in protesting UAW dues hikes due to the Ford Motor Company strikes in 1967 and participated in a strike against the Bell Helicopter Company in 1969. While the UAW continues to be referred to as such, in 1962, UAW officially became the International Union, United Automobile, Aerospace, and Agricultural Implement Workers of America.


Scope and Contents

Collection contains newspaper clippings, newsletters, resolution, and leaflets. Clippings pertain to Local 218's protest against dues increases to finance the UAW strike against Ford Motor Company in 1967, its own strike against Bell Helicopter in 1969, and other UAW locals. The newsletters, resolution, and leaflets pertain to general UAW news and activities.
