Historical Note

The Brotherhood of Railway, Airline and Steamship Clerks, Freight Handlers, Express and Station Employees, Local 1299 was a labor union located in Tyler, Texas. During the 1960's, legal disputes arose between the Cotton Belt Railway, the St. Louis Southwestern Railway Company, Local 1299, and the city of Tyler. The disputes involved an agreement the railway companies made with the city to retain its machine shops and general offices in Tyler in return for certain concessions from the city.

Records contain correspondence, legal documents, newspaper clippings, study, notes, city charter, and a report. All of the materials pertain to a contract dispute between the City of Tyler, the St. Louis Southwestern Railway Company, Cotton Belt Railway, and Local 1299.
