Historical Note

Efforts by the United Auto Workers (UAW) to organize the Ford Motor Company in Dallas, Texas and other U.S. plants from 1937 to 1940 were met with resistance, including violence, until the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) conducted hearings in Dallas in 1940. On August 8, 1940, the NLRB handed down its decision that the Ford Motor Company cease and desist the methods used to block organization of Ford employees. In 1941, Dallas Ford employees voted unanimously to join the United Automobile Workers of America (AFL) and formed Local 840.
