Biographical Note

Mabel M. Kuykendall (1906-1994) was a poet active in Fort Worth, Texas and Taos, New Mexico. A lifelong advocate of poets and poetry, she served as president of the Fort Worth Poetry Society for several years and served as editor for Quicksilver, a poetry magazine, for 15 years. She also supported labor causes and was a member of the National Religion and Labor Foundation.


Scope and Contents

Papers consist of a book, booklets, manuscript, and poems. The book, Out Where the West Begins, is a collection of poetry by Fort Worth authors compiled by Grace Ross and Mabel M. Kuykendall. Two poems by Kuykendall that were composed for the Boiler Makers Local 96 are included. The typed manuscript, The Christian and Labor Problems, was written by Herbert R. Mundhenke, professor of economics at Texas Christian University. The booklet, Fan of the Feathers, is a collection of poems by Grace Ross.
