Historical Note

The Bricklayers, Masons, and Plasterers International Union of America, Local 5 was a labor union located in Dallas, Texas, and was chartered January 25, 1889 under what was then the Bricklayers' and Masons' International Union of America. The union began as the National Union of Bricklayers when it was first organized in 1865. In 1866, the name changed to the International Bricklayers' Union of North America and then to the National Bricklayers' Union in 1868. In 1883, it was changed to the Bricklayers' and Masons' International Union of America and again in 1910 to the Bricklayers, Masons and Plasterers International Union of America. Finally in 1975, it became the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftsmen.


Scope and Contents

Records are comprised of minutes, financial records, legal documents, agreements, and printed material. A bound volume of minutes document the proceedings of meetings held by Local 5 from 1922-1930. Financial records include tax records (1936-1942), audit report (1956), a receipts and disbursements ledger (1946-1953), a cash receipts ledger (1951-1954), and stock certificates for the Dallas Labor Temple Association (1916-1928). Legal documents include titles, deeds, and abstracts (1887-1931).
