Historical Note

The United Brewery Workers of the United States of North America, Local 112 was founded in San Antonio, Texas on June 29, 1894. National and local brewery unions were characterized by a heavy German influence in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries as many of the brewery workers in the United States were German immigrants. Many proceedings and publications were produced entirely in German until 1903, and then bilingually until 1917. Local 112 reflected this influence as well, as its records were recorded in German.

Scope and Contents

Records are comprised of minute books, letter books, a receipts and disbursements ledger, dues ledgers, and photocopies of minutes. Original records are in German although English translations of minutes and letter books are also included. Minutes record and describe the proceedings of meetings held by Local 112 from 1894-1916 and refer to contracts, resolutions, individual members, grievances, labor conditions, breweries, other labor unions, financial matters, and general concerns.
