Historical Note

The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 156 in Fort Worth, Texas was the local affiliate of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, which was originally founded in St. Louis, Missouri, receiving its charter from the American Federation of Labor (AFL) in 1891. On December 1, 1969, Local 156 merged into Local 346, Arlington, Texas.


Scope and Contents

Records are comprised of minutes, correspondence, agreements, bylaws, annual reports, labor legislation, membership lists, bond certificates, and wage scales. Minutes document and describe the proceedings of meetings held by Local 156 throughout 1919 and from 1929-1969. Correspondence pertains to specific members, benefits, labor and wage conditions, disputes, financial matters, legislation, communications with the national office, and other general matters. The membership lists contain names, card numbers, local union numbers, dates of initiation, and addresses.


Organization

Original order of records was retained for the most part. Minutes are in 14 volumes and are arranged in chronological order. Correspondence is arranged in 14 folders according to the term of each financial secretary and is in reverse chronological order. The remainding 6 additional folders contain additional correspondence and records which occasionally contain material pertaining to individuals not produced during their term in office; these materials were left in the files.
