Scope and Contents

These are the papers of Cora Biggers Hutsell and her daughter Alma Hutsell, who lived in Arlington, Texas. The bulk of the collection is biographical material, correspondence and photographs that document the lives of Alma Hutsell; her mother Cora Biggers Hutsell; and other members of the Hutsell and Biggers family.

The collection is organized into six series. The first series, Biographical Material, includes a birth certificate, obituaries, funeral materials, wills and marriage announcements, all involving some member of the Hutsell or Biggers family. The second series is Correspondence, which consists of letters, postcards, and other correspondence from friends and family. Half of this series is made up of letters written to Alma and Cora from Bary Hutsell (grandson of Cora, nephew of Alma) during his time in the Air Force. These letters are photocopies forwarded to Cora and Alma by B. B. Hutsell. The third series, Financial and Business Documents, contains Alma Hutsell’s bank books, business invoices and statements, and property, poll, and school tax records that reflect Alma’s life in the Arlington area. Also included in this series is notary public information for Alma. The fourth series, Photographs, consists mainly of small photographs of family and friends from 1922-1987. The majority of these photographs are unidentified. The fifth series, Printed Material, includes a history of the First Christian Church in Arlington where Alma was employed. Miscellaneous Arlington and Fort Worth business cards, stationary, booklets and memos will be of interest to individuals researching the history of Arlington local businesses. A history of the First Christian Church traces the ministers and families who built and supported the church, ca. 1916-1952. The sixth series, School Material, consists of NTAC report cards, a school photograph, an Arlington High School pin, AHS high school and NTAC college reunion information for Alma, as well as commencement announcements and programs for other members of the Hutsell family.

The Hutsell Family Papers would be of interest to individuals researching Arlington history or local businesses.
