The Moore Funeral Home was founded in Arlington, Texas, by Hugh M. Moore in 1910. When its current building at 1219 North Davis Drive was constructed in 1963, the funeral home owned and operated two cemeteries: Parkdale Cemetery, located on South Mary Street; and Moore Memorial Gardens (formerly White Chapel Gardens) adjacent to the funeral home. In 1954, Moore opened a funeral home at 4912 E. Lancaster, Fort Worth, serving the Handley and Fort Worth areas. Service Corporation International, Houston, Texas, currently owns Moore Funeral Home. The collection is comprised of financial records, maps, and daybooks. The financial records enumerate income and expenses of the funeral home, 1922-1940. The daybooks contain the records of funeral arrangements handled by Moore Funeral Home, 1937-1986. The names of the deceased are indexed in the front of each volume. Funerals were generally arranged for former residents of Arlington and Tarrant County, although some individuals lived in Dallas and other nearby counties. Information about the deceased provided in the daybooks include address; birth and death dates; birthplace; cause of death; place of death; marital status; occupation; parents’ name; veteran status; certifying physician; details of the funeral arrangement and cost; and burial site. |

The collection, in 28 oversize boxes, is comprised of financial records, maps, and daybooks. The financial records, contained in four volumes, enumerate income and expenses of the funeral home, 1922-1940. The daybooks contain the records of funeral arrangements handled by Moore Funeral Home, 1937-1986. The names of the deceased are indexed in the front of each volume. Funerals were generally arranged for former residents of Arlington and Tarrant County, although some individuals lived in Dallas and other nearby counties. Information about the deceased provided in the daybooks include address; birth and death dates; birthplace; cause of death; place of death; marital status; occupation; parents’ name; veteran status; certifying physician; details of the funeral arrangement and cost; and burial site. Burials were made in Rose Hill, Laurel Land, Oakland and other area cemeteries in addition to Moore Memorial Gardens, White Chapel, and Parkdale. Plat maps of internment sites at Moore Memorial Gardens and Parkdale cemeteries are also found in the records.
