Lesbia Word Roberts Papers:A Guide
Biographical NoteLesbia Word Roberts (1912-2007) was a genealogist and historian from Fort Worth, Texas. A graduate of Texas Christian University, she published books on genealogy as well as articles in national magazines on genealogical and historical topics. Roberts taught at Paschal High School, was a member of the Tarrant County Historical Commission, and worked for several Texas oilmen in various capacities from accountant to executive assistant. She married William E. (Bill) Roberts on February 19, 1949. Scope and ContentsUnprocessed Manuscript 98-31, 1902-1997: 4 boxes (4.0 linear ft.) This accession is comprised of correspondence, manuscripts, galley sheets, photographs, research files, oral history tapes, computer disks, newspaper clippings, and miscellaneous printed material. The materials relate to Lesbia Roberts' research and co-writing of the book Oil Legends of Fort Worth, with Jack C. Tunstill and members of the Historical Committee of the Fort Worth Petroleum Club, published by Taylor Publishing Company of Dallas. Correspondence is with the publisher and members of the committee. Plans for the book's format and biographies of Texas oilmen are contained in notebooks. Photographs of scenes and people related to the petroleum industry and corrected galley sheets that did not appear in the publication are included. Unprocessed Manuscript 2006-25, 1825-2004: 22 boxes (22.0 linear ft.) This accession is comprised of correspondence, manuscripts, photographs, research files, computer disks, newspaper clippings, and miscellaneous printed material. The materials relate to Lesbia Roberts' genealogical research on her own Cooper, Bain, and Word families, including original family letters; and client research on the Richardson and Bass families. Materials relating to the Fort Worth Woman's Club and Tarrant County Historical Commission are also included. Unprocessed Manuscript 2007-20: undated, 4 envelopes (0.2 linear ft.): Two envelopes of McGaughey family research; one envelope of Fort Worth Round Table and Fort Worth Woman's Club publications; one envelope of photographs.
