A graduate of Texas Christian University, she published books on genealogy as well as articles in national magazines on genealogical and historical topics. Roberts taught at Paschal High School, was a member of the Tarrant County Historical Commission, and worked for several Texas oilmen in various capacities from accountant to executive assistant.  The Lesbia Word Roberts Papers are comprised of three accessions which include research materials related to her co-authorship of the book <emph render="italic">Oil Legends of Fort Worth,</emph> with Jack C. Tunstill and members of the Historical Committee of the Fort Worth Petroleum Club; genealogical research on her own Cooper, Bain, and Word families; and client research on the Bass and Richardson families.</abstract><unitid label="Identification:">Unprocessed Manuscripts 98-31; 2006-25; 2007-20</unitid><physdesc label="Extent:" encodinganalog="300$a">26 boxes (26.0 linear ft.)</physdesc>

<bioghist encodinganalog="545$a"><head>Biographical Note</head><p>Lesbia Word Roberts (1912-2007) was a genealogist and historian from Fort Worth, Texas. A graduate of Texas Christian University, she published books on genealogy as well as articles in national magazines on genealogical and historical topics. Roberts taught at Paschal High School, was a member of the Tarrant County Historical Commission, and worked for several Texas oilmen in various capacities from accountant to executive assistant.  She married William E. (Bill) Roberts on February 19, 1949.</p></bioghist>
<scopecontent encodinganalog="520$a"><head>Scope and Contents</head><p>Unprocessed Manuscript 98-31, 1902-1997: 4 boxes (4.0 linear ft.)    This accession is comprised of  correspondence, manuscripts, galley sheets, photographs, research files, oral history tapes, computer disks, newspaper clippings, and miscellaneous printed material.  The materials relate to Lesbia Roberts' research and co-writing of the book <emph render="italic">Oil Legends of Fort Worth,</emph> with Jack C. Tunstill and members of the Historical Committee of the Fort Worth Petroleum Club, published by Taylor Publishing Company of Dallas. Correspondence is with the publisher and members of the committee. Plans for the book's format and biographies of Texas oilmen are contained in notebooks. Photographs of scenes and people related to the petroleum industry and corrected galley sheets that did not appear in the publication are included.</p><p>Unprocessed Manuscript 2006-25, 1825-2004: 22 boxes (22.0 linear ft.)  This accession is comprised of correspondence, manuscripts, photographs, research files, computer disks, newspaper clippings, and miscellaneous printed material.  The materials relate to Lesbia Roberts' genealogical research on her own Cooper, Bain, and Word families, including original family letters; and client research on the Richardson and Bass families.  Materials relating to the Fort Worth Woman's Club and Tarrant County Historical Commission are also included.</p><p>Unprocessed Manuscript 2007-20: undated, 4 envelopes (0.2 linear ft.): Two envelopes of McGaughey family research; one envelope of Fort Worth Round Table and Fort Worth Woman's Club publications; one envelope of photographs.  This accession is stored in Unprocessed Manuscript 2006-25, Box 22, and is therefore not counted in the overall physical extent.</p></scopecontent>
