Abstract: P. D. (Perry Decatur) Henry, Jr., was a Fort Worth, Texas, businessman engaged in commercial and industrial real estate. Born in Lott, Texas, Henry moved to Fort Worth in 1919. He graduated from Central High School, attended Texas A&M University, and married the former Virginia Clark, an alumna of Texas Christian University. Henry was a principal in Clark & Henry Realtors, founded by his wife's father, J. C. Clark, in 1920. Henry was president of the Fort Worth Board of Realtors in 1949-1950, and was active in other real estate professional organizations. The P. D. Henry, Jr. Photograph Collection is primarily comprised of images of downtown Fort Worth office buildings, commercial and industrial properties, street scenes, and aerial views.

Biographical Note

P. D. (Perry Decatur) Henry, Jr., was a Fort Worth, Texas, businessman engaged in commercial and industrial real estate. Born in Lott, Texas, Henry moved to Fort Worth in 1919. He graduated from Central High School, attended Texas A&M University, and married the former Virginia Clark, an alumna of Texas Christian University. Henry was a principal in Clark & Henry Realtors, founded by his wife's father, J. C. Clark, in 1920. Henry was president of the Fort Worth Board of Realtors in 1949-1950, and was active in other real estate professional organizations. His civic involvements included tenure on the Fort Worth Board of Equalization and the Fort Worth ISD board of trustees. He was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Fort Worth.


Scope and Contents

Photographs. The P. D. Henry, Jr. Photograph Collection is primarily comprised of images of downtown Fort Worth office buildings, commercial and industrial properties, street scenes, and aerial views. Prominent among them are the Burk Burnett, First National Bank, Life of America, and Transamerican Life buildings; and Commerce, Eighth, Main, and Throckmorton Streets. Of particular note is a series of four photographs documenting the exterior remodeling of City National Bank in Dallas. An undated photograph of a U. S. Navy dirigible is also included. The work of W. D. Smith, Inc., Commercial Photography dominates the collection, but also included are photographs by Associated Pictures, Clements, Douglas Elliott, Fort Worth Photographic Laboratories, and Jernigan Photo Service.

Because of the size and scope of the Henry collection, it was removed from the Texas Photograph Collection to stand on its own. The collection was arranged and finding aid written by Brenda S. McClurkin in September 2012.
