<bioghist encodinganalog="545"><head>Historical Note</head><p>The Carter-Ivy Hardware Company opened at 120 North Main Street, Weatherford, Texas in 1902. It was located on the premises of the former J. R. Lewis Company which was destroyed by fire in May 1901. Mr. Ivy, an early partner, sold his share of the business to T. S. Carter and left the area. Carter-Ivy Hardware Company was operated by succeeding generations of T. S. Carter’s family – Robert Grady Carter (1889-1968), Robert Samuel Carter (1926-1989) and Robert Randall Carter (1955-2004) – serving Weatherford’s hardware needs for over one hundred years. Carter-Ivy Hardware Company was known as the place in Weatherford to go for items that could not be found elsewhere. The store retained its original character until June 2007 when its contents were auctioned to the public.</p></bioghist>
