Adell Campbell Papers:A Guide
Biographical NoteAdell Campbell was reared in Lynbrook, New York, the daughter of Harold and Catherine Horton. In addition to New York, she has lived in California, Minnesota, New Jersey, and Virginia, and has twice has made Arlington, Texas, her home. Politically active, Campbell ran for the California State Assembly in 1976 and a U.S. Senate seat from Minnesota in 1978. She has been a member of many local boards and commissions and active in a variety of community service clubs and projects. Long a staunch advocate for the elderly and physically and mentally handicapped, Campbell has produced a weekly radio show, "The Eyes of North Texas," for Reading and Radio Resource, North Texas Radio for the Blind (NTRB) in Dallas since November 2005, and celebrated the taping of her 256th show in June 2011. As a young woman, Campbell authored a number of plays, two which were performed on radio. Fostered by an interest in gardening, Campbell has taught continuing education classes on herbs at various colleges and universities, and authored the book, The Edlible Herb Alphabet and Herbal Holiday Calendar. The scrapbooks record Campbell's years at Hofstra College in New York, political and community activities in California, Minnesota, Virginia, and Arlington, Texas, including her quest for a California State Assembly seat in 1976 and her run for the U.S. Senate from Minnesota in 1978.
