The International Longshoremen Association, formed in 1892 along the Great lakes, is the largest union of maritime workers in North America. The American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations, AFL-CIO, was formed by the merger of the AFL and CIO in 1955. Laborers’ International Union of North America was founded in 1903 as the International Hod Carriers and Building Laborers Union. The Office and Professional Employees International Union was chartered in 1945. The Communications Workers of America, or CWA, was founded in 1947. The United Association of Plumbers and Steamfitters was founded in 1889 and is now known as the United Association, or UA, which is short for the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing, Pipefitting and Sprinkler Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada. The Sheet Metal Workers International Association, or SMWIA, was founded in 1888 as the Tin, Sheet Iron, and Cornice Workers International Association. The International Union, United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America, also known as the United Auto Workers, or UAW, was founded in 1935. The United Cement, Lime, and Gypsum Workers International Union is now the Cement, Lime, and Gypsum and Allied Workers Division of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers. The United Plant Guard Workers of America, formed in 1948 is now known as the Security, Police, and Fire Professionals of America.
The majority of this artificial collection contains constitutions and agreements for the International Longshoremen Association.
