Historical NoteThe University of Texas at Arlington traces its beginnings back to a private school, Arlington College, at the site in 1895. The school went through various ownerships and name changes before becoming part of The University of Texas system in 1967. In the forties, the university was known as North Texas Agricultural College (NTAC). The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering currently offers a variety of degrees, including doctoral degrees in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering. The department includes several research centers and laboratories, permitting a varied experimental program. The Aerodynamics Research Center has existed at the university since the 1930s when it was originally an aircraft maintenance and fabrication facility.
