Theodore S. Ebbert was a member of the 2nd Pennsylvania Regiment during the U.S. War with Mexico.
Five letters from Theodore S. Ebbert to his sisters and brother-in-law - Mariah Ebbert of Cookstown, Pennsylvania, and the Reverend Josiah and Alvina Gibson of Moorefield, Ohio. Two letters emanated from Vera Cruz, March 30 and April 5, 1847; one from Castle of Perote, May 21, 1847; and the last two from Puebla, March 28 and 30, 1848. Ebbert discussed military matters such as division structure, troop movements, and military engagements. He also provided great insight into the daily experience of a soldier and detailed descriptions of Mexican soldiers and civilians.
