The Labor News was originally published weekly by the International Association of Machinists, District Lodge 776, Fort Worth, Texas under the name, Plane Facts. Its prime purpose was "the dissemination of facts, relating to economic, social and nonpartisian political problems." With the February 22, 1946 issue Plane Facts was changed to Plain Facts. The newspaper was sold in April, 1946 by publisher S.F. Gauthier to Willard Barr. Mr. Barr, a Fort Worth newspaperman, had just returned from service in the Navy. The publication was renamed Labor News and with its first issue on May 10, 1946, Mr. Barr, its publisher and editor, stated the purpose was "to print all pertinent news possible about the labor movement in Fort Worth; to stimulate discussion among working people of the issues and daily developments vital to their welfare, and to foster those elements in union leadership which work conscientiously for better service to labor organizations, and better service to the public." It ceased publication on ceased publication on May 15, 1975 due to the local lack of support for the labor movement. Records are comprised of newspapers. |
