Established on December 21, 1922, the Austin Labor Temple Association brought together members of local unions in Austin, Texas for the purpose of erecting and operating a building to be used as a meeting place for its members. Known as the Austin Labor Temple, (See By-Laws, June 7, 1960) the original temple building was in use from 1923 until 1959 when the structure was sold and razed (See AR 103). The minutes in this collection are from June 7, 1960 through February 4, 1975. Throughout this period members of the Association considered the advisability of constructing a new Labor Temple by inspecting building sites and submitting proposals to the membership for the purchase of land or buildings. However, no temple was built and the possibility of constructing an apartment complex for the elderly was then considered and rejected. The monthly meetings were resumed on an annual basis in combination with the membership meetings and Board meetings. A special meeting was called on March 4, 1975, to dissolve the Austin Labor Temple Association, and in July of that year the Association transferred its assets of $33,101.31 to the Texas AFL-CIO.

The collection was received in no apparent order and was arranged alphabetically by subject or by document type. Materials in each category are in chronological order.
Check stubs and cancelled checks were discarded with the exception of the last check which transferred the assets to the Texas AFL-CIO. Minutes and annual audits were removed from a loose-leaf notebook and placed in folders.
