The Dallas Building Trades Council, also known as the Building Trades Council of Dallas and Vicinity, was chartered on March 25, 1910, for the purpose of promoting harmony between craftsmen and their employers.
The name Building and Construction Trades Council of Dallas and Vicinity appears on correspondence and financial documents in the collection until 1959. In late 1959 and 1960 the name was shortened to Building and Construction Trades Council. In 1961 the name was changed to the Dallas Building and Construction Trades Council, and this name was still in use in 1993.
The collection also includes records for the Denison Building and Construction Trades Council.

The collection was heavily weeded of duplicate and extraneous material.
Twenty-five agreements were transferred to the Labor Archives Agreements Collection, and nine by-laws and Constitutions in booklet form were transferred to the Labor Archives Constitutions Collection.
