Biographical Note

Twedell was a union organizer, 1933-1948. In 1948, he was the first organizer elected as an International Vice-President of the Amalgamated Meat Cutters and Butcher Workmen of North America. Also in 1948, he assumed directorship of its District 5. Twedell retired in July, 1968.


Scope and Contents

Correspondence, financial records, agreements, organizers’ reports, printed material, photographs (1915-1962), and photocopy of personal scrapbook (1935-1967). Includes personal and union papers.


 

Organization

Materials are organized alphabetically by subject and thereunder chronologically.
Boxes 1-46 contain correspondence, handbills, organizational information and records of (primarily) District V of the AMC and BW of NA, of which Sam Twedell was the director. Box 47 contains photographs. Boxes 47-64 contain organizers' reports. Boxes 64-67 contain financial records of various local unions within District V. Box 68 contains photo reproductions of Mr. Twedell's personal scrapbook.
