James G. Reeves records,circa 1967-2002
Biographical Sketch of James G. Reeves (1941 - 2002)James G. (Glenn) Reeves was a landscape architect and educator. He received his Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Texas in 1967 and his Master of Landscape Architecture degree from the University of Michigan in 1970. Reeves taught design and graphics at University of Michigan, University of California at Berkeley, California Polytechnic State University, Rice University, and Harvard Graduate School for Design. Reeves started working at Sasaki Walker and Associates (SWA Group) in Houston in 1970 and became head designer in 1989. He served as project designer and community planner for projects in cities in over half of the states, as well as in Europe, east Asia, the Middle East, South America, and the Carribean. His areas of focus included urban design projects, campus master planning, site development programming, environmental analysis, and landscape architecture. Reeves was a member of the American Society of Landscape Architects. He is known for several large public projects: Golden Gate National Recreation Area, John Carpenter Plaza in Dallas, and the award-winning Williams Square in Fort Worth. The National Sculpture Society posthumously awarded him the Henry Hering Art and Architecture Award for his work on Pioneer Courage Park in Omaha, Nebraska. Return to the Table of Contents Scope and Content of the collectionThe collection includes drawings, project lists and files, documents relating to his coworkers at SWA Group, documents about SWA Group projects, office records, professional correspondence, clippings, brochures, notes, and postcards. The collection also consists of photographs, slides, four project CDs, audio tapes, and a floppy disk.
