Stewart King (d. 1970), a contemporary of O'Neil Ford, was a San Antonio landscape architect.
Office files, job files, specifications, plant files, periodicals, federal guidelines, photographs and landscape plans document Stewart King's work in landscape architecture from 1950-1969. The collection consists of 2,500 landscape architecture drawings, 7.85 linear feet of manuscript material and 110 photographs.
The office files contain examples of King's specification forms providing researchers with valuable information about standards for landscape architecture at that time.
The job files hold correspondence with clients, including cost estimates and summaries of plantings.
The specifications give details of the landscaper's duties. King played a role in landscaping the San Antonio Hemisfair; the specifications for this project are included. King also did work on Texas Housing Authority Projects in the 1960s. These files contain specifications for landscaping at a variety of housing projects.
King's concern with using indigenous plants led him to keep a series of plant files -- informational brochures on fertilizer, pruning, soils, diseases and the like.
The job files, specifications, prints and drawings are arranged alphabetically by project name. The prints are copies of the drawings that are part of this set of papers.

Series K: Drawings |
|
Series Abstract |
|
Entries in the Drawings Series are indexed in alphabetical order by Client's name. If the client is not identifiable, the field will remain blank. Entries without client names are sorted by Project Name and listed before those that provide client's names. Furthermore, similar projects are sorted in chronological order by date. Project names are supplied by the cataloger, as title blocks on the drawings prove to be inconsistent and many drawings are not labeled. Dates are offered if they can be derived from the drawings or gathered from other authoritative sources. The term "drawing" includes both original works (such as pencil on trace paper, or ink on tracing clothe) as well as copies (such as sepia prints, blue line prints, etc.). |
