Abstract:Architectural drawings (prints), photographs, slides, maps, art and architectural books (transferred to the Architecture and Planning Library Special Collections) cover the core subjects of European architecture of the 19th and 20th centuries, particularly the Austrian Secession and the German Jugendstil. The materials were collected by Professor Kermacy during his tenure as a Fulbright Lecturer at the Technische Hochschule Wien during 1955 and 1956. In addition, the collection includes 92 exhibition panels for "Art Nouveau and Vienna Secession. From Otto Wagner to Adolf Loos." Lastly, there are reports and drawings of students of Kermacy as well as drawings from Kermacy's professional practice.

Biographical Sketch of Martin Stephen Kermacy

Martin S. Kermacy was born April 6, 1915 in Kula, Hungary. He studied architecture at the University of Pennsylvania, receiving a Bachelor of Architecture in 1938 and Master of Architecture in 1939. He taught at at the University of Texas School of Architecture, University of Texas at Austin from 1947 to 1983, retiring as Professor Emeritus of Architecture and Planning. He died in Austin, Texas on June 8, 2007.

Scope and Content of the collection

Architectural drawings (prints), photographs, slides, maps, art and architectural books (transferred to the Architecture and Planning Library Special Collections) cover the core subjects of European architecture of the 19th and 20th centuries, particularly the Austrian Secession and the German Jugendstil. The materials were collected by Professor Kermacy during his tenure as a Fulbright Lecturer at the Technische Hochschule Wien during 1955 and 1956.

In addition, the collection includes 92 exhibition panels for "Art Nouveau and Vienna Secession. From Otto Wagner to Adolf Loos." Lastly, there are reports and drawings of students of Kermacy as well as drawings from Kermacy's professional practice.

Series III: Drawings from Bauamt der Stadt Wien (Building Department, Vienna)

Series Abstract
This series offers an inventory of 179 drawings covering 33 of the most important buildings of the Austrian Secession. These are sepia copies of plans originally filed with applications for building permits in Vienna. This material was collected by Professor Kermacy during his tenure as Fulbright Lecturer at the Technische Hochschule Wien during 1955-1956.

Series IV: Vienna Slides

Series Abstract
This series consists of 1,446 35mm color and black and white slides of Viennese architecture from Baroque to Secession, including black and white slides of photographic prints from the Photo Archive of the Austrian National Library, and other reference materials. Much of the collection dates from 1955-1956, and covers panoramic urban views, markets and squares, parks and recreation, regional landscape, and special political, religious, and social celebrations. The following is a list of slide quantities for specified architects. Use the Vienna Summary series, column 6 as an inventory and finding aid (see the archives' staff for more information). For SUBJECT access see Section I., VIENNA SUMMARY, available through the Alexander Architectural Archive.
