Rose Sizemore was a North Texas educator and arts instructor who worked throughout the region
from the 1920s to the 1960s. She taught school, served as a school principal, and
operated dance studios for children in several towns including Denton, Cuero,
Corsicana, and Lewisville. Sizemore received her undergraduate degree from North
Texas State Teachers College in 1928 and a master's degree from Texas State College
for Women in 1952. She was the sixth of thirteen children born to Margaret Etta Carr
and Benjamin Franklin (B.F.) Sizemore, a prominent Baptist preacher who founded the
Trinity Baptist Church in Denton, known today as the Highland Baptist Church.
The records in this collection document Rose Sizemore's talent for teaching young children,
especially in the arts. The collection includes handwritten and printed materials
that reflect her varied interests including: music, dance, drama, speech, poetry,
education, and travel. Of particular note is the large collection of sheet music and
an original tune about Shirley Temple which was copyrighted by Sizemore. The
collection also contains photographs, primarily of Sizemore's students, and other
visual materials gathered during her years as a teacher and traveller.
