Lenny Abercrombie Letter, 1858
Historical NoteAccording to letter annotations, Lenny Abrercrombie was a Confederate soldier killed in the Battle of Seven Pines at age 15. If correct, this letter was written when Abercrombie was 11 years old, while a student at the Texas Monumental and Military Institute in Rutersville, Texas. In the letter addressed to his mother, Abercrombie describes military training and labor conditions at the school.
