            <p>On April 19, 1901 the Texas Legislature passed HB 71 
                <extref actuate="onRequest" show="new" title="Legislative Reference Library of Texas: HB 71" href="http://www.lrl.state.tx.us/scanned/sessionLaws/27-0/HB_71_CH_125.pdf">(Acts 1901, 27th R.S.,ch. 125, General Laws of Texas)</extref> allowing for the sale and lease of public school and asylum lands. The Register recorded the applications made to purchase land only.</p>
