            <head>Biographical Note</head>
            <p>Josephine Jane Rice grew up in Dallas and attended 
                Highland Park High School where she graduated valedictorian of her class in 1941.  
                She obtained a degree in music at TSCW and also participated in the Rifle Team.  
                After college, she joined the Marine Corps and became the first woman machine gun instructor.  
                In 1950, she married in the Little Chapel in-the-Woods on the TSCW campus in Denton.

            <p>Photographs and news clippings of her wedding and Marine Corps 
                 career including a March 27, 1944 Life magazine article.  
                  Also includes a framed montage of photographs and insignia 
                   from the Cherry Point, N.C. Marine Training Base, a glass with 
                    WMA (Women Marine Association) logo, and a Highland Park High School War Veterans Memorial video.</p>

            <p>Researchers may access the Mamie Frances King Hansen Papers Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm in the
                Woman's Collection.  The Woman's Collection is located on the second floor of the Blagg-Huey Library. All materials are 
                viewed in the Catherine Merchant Reading Room, and photocopies are provided at the discretion of the Woman's Collection.</p>
