         <head>Biographical Sketch</head>
         <p>In the fall of 1951, President Wiggins decided that the university should 
			begin a self-evaluation program.  Though the main purpose of the study was to 
			evaluate the university's graduate programs, the study surveyed both the 
			undergraduate and graduate programs.  A faculty committee was created to serve 
			as a steering committee for the faculty study section.</p>
			<p>Each department was asked to submit a report on its doctoral programs and to 
			complete a report based on questioned set by the self-evaluation committee.  A 
			composite report was compiled from these various departmental reports, after 
			which  the committee reviewed the report and made suggestions.  A final draft 
			of the report was then completed.</p>

         <head>Scope and Content</head>
         <p>The collection contains the worksheets, statistical surveys and departmental 
			reports used to compile the final report in 1954.</p>

         <head>Organization</head>
         <p>The materials are arranged into alphabetical order. The entire collection 
			was reprocessed as half the materials were in folders and the other half loose 
			in the box, with no perceptible order.  Many items were duplicates and were 
			culled from the collection.</p>
