Biographical Sketch

Born in Jayton on March 27, 1931, Robert A. Moreland received his bachelor's and master's degrees in mathematics from Texas Tech, and his doctorate of mathematics from the University of Texas. Moreland went on to serve in the Korean War, as a mathematician for Sandia Corp., and a consultant for the Naval Missile Center before returning to Texas Tech as a math professor in 1955. At Tech, he was named Outstanding Professor by the Texas Tech Chapter of the Mathematical Association of America in 1994 and was advisor for Sigma Nu. He passed away on Sept. 7, 2000, in Lubbock, Texas.

Kappa Mu Epsilon, a mathematics organization, was founded in 1931 and granted membership into the Association of College Honor Societies in 1968. The Texas Tech chapter appears to have been established in 1940.
