Nancy McKissack, whose married name is Cantwell, was born in 1933 and attended Texas Technological College in the early 1950s. During
her years at Texas Tech, McKissack was involved with Zeta Tau Alpha and the drama fraternity Alpha Psi Omega.
Zeta Tau Alpha was founded at Longwood College in Farmville, Virginia, on October 15, 1898. It became the first sorority to be
chartered in Virginia in 1902 and later, in 1909, became a member of the National Panhellenic Conference. Members of Las Vivarachas
social club at Texas Technological College became pledges of the Gamma Tau Chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha on December 5, 1952, and were
initiated as member in April, 1953.
The collection consists of two scrapbooks donated by Nancy Cantwell. The first scrapbook is comprised of Get Well cards and notes for
the donor’s father, H. Taylor McKissack. The second scrapbook consists of memorabilia from Cantwell’s college days at Texas Technological
College. The bulk of the scrapbook concerns the activities of the Gamma Tau chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha, although there are also many
memorabilia items concerning other social organizations such as Alpha Psi Omega, Phi Delta Theta, Phi Kappa Pi, Alpha Tau Omega, and
Sigma Alpha Epsilon. Most of the 27 photographs are from college dances.
