Biographical Sketch
Organized under the Chancellor's Division to handle news and information for the Texas Tech system, the Office of News and
Publications is the central clearinghouse for publications produced for the system. It is also responsible for placing stories and
sources in the state and national media and for bringing more prominence to the system.
The Office of News and Publications is divided into several bureaus: news for the University; news for the Health Sciences Center;
publications; video news releases; advertising campaigns and various publications.
Scope and Contents
The collection contains 174 negatives and 14,905 slides documenting the people, campus and activities of Texas Tech University.

scenes from New Deal and Brownfield, Tech Rodeo, musician Mickey Gillis performing, New Deal Feedlot, and llamas and horses in pens.

but also included are images of women's track, the Masked Rider, Raider Red, and Dr. Cavazos and others at half-time during Homecoming.

Athletics- Band (225 slides). 1976-1979 The images include various
band activities such as a half-time dedication to Dean Killion, Director of the Band, formations during half-time, members
practicing marching, and band members performing and cheering in the stands.

field events, various coaches, basketball games, Gerald Myers, football practice, football games, softball, weightlifting, and the
ticketing office and athletic facilities. Persons identified include Jarvis Scott (track), Jaycie Hudson (volleyball),
Jerry Moore (football), and Rex Dockery (football).

Board of Regents (170 slides). 1976-1984 Included are images of
Dr. Lawrence Graves, Dr. Cecil Mackey, and various individual and group portraits of members of the Board of Regents. There are
also various campus activity related images, including students, people horseback riding, and people swimming and diving.

Campus Buildings (53 slides). 1983-1986 Buildings include Holden Hall,
Goddard, and Thompson Hall. The majority of the images are of the last faculty meeting in Thompson Hall [in 1986].

working, many of which are professors with students. Included are Dr. Baker, architectural project drawings placed on the walls of
the Administration building, rodeo images, cotton classing line at the Textile Research Center, Agricultural Engineering, the
Museum, a feedlot, and the Foreign Language Lab.

the Administration building, with the remainder being of the Education Department faculty and students.

Engineering (326 slides). 1978-1983 The majority of the images are of
the Crosbyton Solar Power Project. Also included are the Textile Research Center and building exteriors.

Facilities (144 negatives, 276 slides).1960-1983 Building images
include the Business Administration, Foreign Languages, English, Goddard Range and Wildlife, Bookstore, Holden Hall, Recreation
Center, Home Economics, Administration, Health Sciences Center, Textile Research Center, Mass Communications, Museum, Chemistry,
various fraternity houses, the Aquatic Center, and Art and Architecture. Also included are images of the Library under construction,
and campus building postcards and construction on Jones Stadium in 1960 (both of these are probably reproduced from the Heritage Club
Photograph collection).

Fine Arts (270 slides).1974-1978 Images include sandpainting at
ICASALS, students painting and doing ceramics, music students performing and playing the carillon, dancers, groundbreaking for the
Music building, and various theatrical productions (including Adagio, Arsenic and Old Lace, Carmen, Peer Gynt, Bus Stop, the Chalk
Garden, and Faustus). Also included are some random images of campus buildings- the Dairy Barn, Chemistry, Journalism, and the Law
School, as well as staff of Biology and Traffic and Parking.

shots from various football games and some crowd shots.

are Hulen, Stangel-Murdough, Horn, Wall-Gates, Knapp, Bledsoe, Gaston, Chitwood-Weymouth, Wells, Wiggins, Clement, Coleman, Gordon,
Carpenter, Sneed, Doak, and Weeks. Also includes images of Bess Haley and Thompson Hall.

Circle, flower beds, the Tech Seal, snow scenes on campus, Governor Preston Smith and wife posing with chrysanthemum flowers, and
miscellaneous student scenes such as dorm life. Other images are of the Saddle Tramps, Women's Service Organization, and the ROTC.

people working the archaelogical dig and facilities, and the archaeological items found, although there are some aerial views,
shots of fauna, and views of the Museum. Also included are images of Dr. Sankar Chatterjee's press conference and Dr. Cavazos at the
Millard Sheets reception.

at work at the El Paso, Amarillo and Lubbock facilities. Includes the School of Nursing, Physical Therapy, Surgery, and Occupational
Therapy, as well as Governor White's visit to the Health Sciences Center on November 1983, and the Odessa groundbreaking party.

first Golden Spur, east windeo restoration - King Company, some landscape scenes from Brownfield and New Deal, and C. T. McLaughlin
statue ceremony. The majority of the images are probably related to Ranch Day activities.

of the various structures at the RHC. Includes the U Lazy S Carriage House, El Copote Cabin, Las Escarbadas, the Masterson Bunkhouse,
the Hedwig Hill Double Log Cabin, the Meat and Milk House, the Bairfield School, the Matador Office, the Matador Half Dugout, and the
Eclipse and Clipper Windmills. Also includes the moving the fireplace for the Picket and Sotol and the moving of the Barton House.
